A delay device which may be used to delay the carry in the binary adder of Specification 1,059,791 comprises a slide valve 15 (Fig. 4) moved, when a high-pressure pulse representing the digit " 1 " is applied to input channel 14b, to bring a source of high pressure into communication with a channel 17. As the pressure increases at the end of a capillary tube 22, a further slide valve 18 is moved after a time delay to the position "shown in dotted lines so that a high-pressure source at 18a is applied to the output channel 12a. Similarly a slide valve 19 is moved to the right so that output channel 12a is in communication with the left side of valve 18 and consequently secures the high pressure signal which also serves to keep valve 18 in its right-hand position. If a " 0 " signal succeeds the " 1 " signal, the input 17 of the delay element is vented and the pressures at 22a, 23a gradually decrease so that valve 19 moves to the left masking the port between tube 22a and outlet 12a. After a fixed time delay the pressure at 22a drops sufficiently to allow valve 18 to resume its left-hand position.</p> |
