<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of detecting an excess of the number of staple-limitation sheets or mixture of sizes before printing by not starting the printing until completion of development of all the pages, and an image forming apparatus having the printer. <P>SOLUTION: This printer comprises a staple mechanism, a punch mechanism and a Z-folding mechanism. In the printer, print data of an image from a host computer is developed on a memory 4, the image is temporally spooled in an image memory section 7 such as an HDD or the like and the printing is performed by reading the image from the image memory section 7.
