<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus incorporating photoreceptors or a photoreceptor and a transfer belt disposed in contact with the photoreceptors or photoreceptor, with which abnormal wear of a cleaning member for the transfer belt is restrained while damage to the photoreceptors or photoreceptor is restrained without affecting image formation and filming on the transfer belt due to a toner post-processing agent is also retrained, and with which an extremely complex structure and a cost increase are avoided. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus incorporates one or more photoreceptors 31 and the transfer belt 35 disposed in contact with the photoreceptor drum or drums. The image forming apparatus controls the drive of the belt 35 and the drive of the photoreceptors or photoreceptor 31 so that a relative speed difference is made between the belt 35 and at least one of the photoreceptors 31.
