PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera system which does not cause exposure irregularity even in the case of high shutter speed, and a focal plane shutter device for a camera. SOLUTION: A focal plane shutter 56 in a shutter unit 21 incorporates an electrostatic actuator 57 for driving a front curtain 25a and a rear curtain 25b. When a 1st pulse signal of a 1st cycle is outputted from a pulse generation circuit 54, a 2nd pulse signal of a 2nd cycle longer than the 1st cycle is generated by a driving circuit 55 based on the 1st pulse signal, and supplied to the focal plane shutter 56 as a driving signal for the electrostatic actuator 57. Meanwhile, a 3rd pulse signal of a 3rd cycle shorter than the 2nd cycle is generated by an output circuit 58 based on the 1st pulse signal, and supplied to a stroboscopic device 60 as a timing signal at the time of flat light emission.
