PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steam generator capable of efficiently drying a heat exchanger after finishing the operation and sufficiently improving its cleanliness. SOLUTION: This steam generator is characterized in having the heat exchanger having a heating means and generating steam by diffusing hot water; a circulating pump pumping up the hot water, which is diffused to the heat exchanger and recovered in a tank, and diffusing it again to the heat exchanger; a detecting means detecting the temperature of the heat exchanger; a discharge means discharging the hot water in the tank; and a control means, when discharging water by the discharging means, stopping the operation of the circulating pump before the temperature of the heat exchanger detected by the detecting means becomes lower than a predetermined temperature.
