OPTICAL ELEMENT, AND OPTICAL TRANSCEIVER HAVING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element of one chip wherein any crosstalk is generated hardly even though the space between an LD and a PD is made short. SOLUTION: The optical element is the one wherein a surface emitting laser 10a and a photodiode 10b disposed on the surface of an Fe-InP substrate 30 are separated from each other by a trench 12 dug in the Fe-InP substrate, and the surfaces of the surface emitting laser 10a and the photodiode 10b are covered with metal films 24 via SiN films 22. Since the electric fields caused by the electric signals fed to the surface emitting laser 10a and that derived from the photodiode 10b are so confined in the respective insides of the vertical cavity laser 10a and the photodiode 10b by the respective metal films 24 as not to be leaked to the external, the crosstalk of the electric signals are removed therefrom which are generated mutually between the surface emitting laser 10a and the photodiode 10b.
