PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation system and a navigation method capable of displaying smoothly a car mark, even when traveling on an unregistered road at the first time. SOLUTION: This system/method is provided with a road map database 8 for storing a road map data including a vehicular road, a present position calculating part 1 for detecting the present position of a vehicle, a display part 6 for displaying the car mark indicating the present position of the vehicle and the vehicular road in the periphery of the present position of the vehicle at the same time, a vehicle position correcting part 2 for correcting the car mark onto the vehicular road, when the present position of the vehicle is not consistent with the vehicular road, an unregistered road estimating part 4 for estimating that the vehicle advances into a vehicular road (unregistered road) not included in the road map data, based on a traveling condition of the vehicle, and a control part 5 for controlling the vehicle position correcting part 2 not to correct the car mark onto the vehicular road, when the unregistered road estimating part 4 estimates the advance of the vehicle into the unregistered road.
