<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently position two images showing a pair of subjects for arranging the images so that the subjects in the images are symmetrical and outputting the images in arranging and outputting the two images to be compared and contrasted in an image output device. <P>SOLUTION: The positioning process is executed not by the image output device such as a film printer 4 or an image viewer 5 but by a QA-WS (a quality-checking workstation) 3 as a pre-treatment. A positioning device 3B of the QA-WS 3 executes the positioning process of reference regions of images P1 and P2, calculates the quantity of displacement (quantity of movement) of the reference positions of both images, and generates an image P' after the positioning. A distribution means 33B obtains information R on output devices, and distributes the original images P1 and P2 and the information (d) on the quantity of movement to the image viewer 5 or distributes the image P' after the positioning to the film printer 4 according to the destination of distribution.
