PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma display apparatus in which electric power consumption can be reduced, drive efficiency can be improved and further the load of the high voltage to a drive circuit can be reduced by enabling the apparatus to drive with a low voltage. SOLUTION: The plasma display apparatus includes a plasma display panel in which a plurality of maintenance electrodes having scan electrodes and sustain electrodes are formed, a drive section for driving the plurality of the maintenance electrodes, and a drive pulse control section for controlling the drive section to apply a negative polarity scan waveform to the scan electrodes during address period and to apply a positive polarity sustain waveform and a negative polarity sustain waveform of the same voltage level as the scan waveform during the sustain period and for applying the positive polarity sustain waveform applied to the scan electrodes during the sustain period to the sustain electrodes and the sustain waveform of reverse polarity from the polarity of the negative polarity sustain waveform.
