PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator for a lithium ion secondary battery having uniform hole diameters and excellent ion permeability, capable of preventing short-circuiting even when temperature rises to such high temperatures exceeding 180°C. SOLUTION: This separator for the lithium-ion secondary battery comprises a nonwoven fabric containing heat resistant pulp fiber having a melting point or a carbonization temperature of 300°C or higher, and thermoplastic fiber having a melting point of 200°C or higher, and the percentage of void of the nonwoven fabric is not more than 60%, and none of the nonwoven fabric composing material is formed into a film.
