PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus provided with a light guide unit with a simple and inexpensive structure capable of stably lighting up a liquid crystal unit without the need for a special purpose light source. SOLUTION: In the image reading apparatus 1 provided with: a light source for emitting light to an original; an image read section 4 for obtaining image data of the original on the basis of the reflected light from the original; a liquid crystal display section 6 provided with the liquid crystal unit 61 and a light guide plate 62 arranged on a rear side of the liquid crystal unit 61; the light guide unit for guiding the light from the light source to the light guide plate 62, and the image reading apparatus 1 uses the light from the light source as a backlight for the liquid crystal display section 6, and the light guide unit is configured with the light guide plate 62 extendedly formed along a moving path of the light source in the vicinity of the light source.
