The slide has an adjustment mechanism (8) adjusting relative position of movable and fixed rails (6, 7) and comprising a swivel nut system (10) presenting a projecting part (21) which is disposed in a housing (22) formed on the rail (6). The mechanism has a damping unit (19) interposed between the part and the housing for prohibiting rotation of the system around a fixed screw (9) and for absorbing vibrations of the system. An independent claim is also included for a motor vehicle seat comprising a base mounted on a slide.
