PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat linear motor in which a moving member moves in wide range smoothly and that has a flexible structure. SOLUTION: The flat linear motor 1 includes first armature windings 3x constituted of windings of at least one turn arranged on a plane according to the number of phases used; a second armature windings 3y constituted of windings of at least one turn arranged on a plane according to the number of phases used; a sheet armature 3 made up of the first armature windings 3x and the second armature windings 3y arranged within a fixed angle in the perpendicular direction; the moving member 5 that moves maintaining a prescribed gap from the surface of the sheet armature 3; and a gap maintaining mechanism 7 arranged between the sheet armature 3 and the moving member 5.
