PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost and exact gyrocompass for a vessel. SOLUTION: The rolling sphere type gyrocompass for vessels has a rolling sphere 4 at a north pointing part and the rolling sphere 4 is supported with support liquid 8 filling a container 3. It comprises a scale 9 arranged horizontally along the fringe of the rolling sphere 4 and having divisions with equal intervals, an optical sensor 5 detecting the divisions of the scale 9, and a signal processor calculating and outputting the azimuth of the vessel based on the detection result of the optical sensor.
