PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing apparatus which enables normal peeling of the ink ribbon from a printing medium regardless of the length of the heating control time of a thermal head, resulting in a smooth ink transfer to the printing medium. SOLUTION: A temperature sensing means 4 for sensing the temperature near the apparatus, a ribbon sensing means 5 for sensing the type of the ink ribbon, and a medium sensing means for sensing the type of the printing medium are provided. In accordance with the sensing results of the sensing means set are the time from predetermined-cycle timing until control of heating the thermal head 3 is started, and the time for performing heating control.
