PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device capable of detecting the kind of two kinds of paper feed units of different device height without increasing the number of connection pins. SOLUTION: In the connection relationship between an image forming device 5 and a paper feed unit 14, when the paper feed unit 14 (2nd) is connected, the GND electric potential is input in a CPU 16 of the image forming device 5 through the GND connection of a pull-up resistance 17 of a second presence/absence detection signal line of the image forming device 5 to the paper feed unit 14 (2nd), and connection of the paper feed unit 14 (2nd) can be detected. When another paper feed unit is connected to the lower side of the paper feed unit, the mutual connection detection signals of the paper feed units are inverted according to the kind of the height of the paper feed unit connected to the upper side, at least two kinds of the paper feed units are identified, and the kind of the paper feed unit can be detected by a paper feed unit connection detection means of the image forming device.
