PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader having high resolution which is light-weight and small-sized and has a low manufacturing cost. SOLUTION: The image reader has such a structure that a buffer material is interposed between a mirror and a mirror fixing base not to bring them into direct contact with each other. Thus vibrations to be transmitted from an optical unit to the mirror are attenuated by the buffer material, and vibrations transmitted to the mirror are quickly absorbed by slight flexibility of the buffer material. Since pressure is not applied to the mirror except its attachment position to the mirror fixing base, the mirror is not distorted to eliminate resolution defects at the time of manufacturing, and the productivity can be improved.
