PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an extensometer capable of accurately measuring extension over a range from a high-temperature region to a low-temperature region under simple constitution. SOLUTION: Fixing elements 11a and 11b are respectively fixed to gage parts at two places set to a test piece W and a pipe 12 comprising an electric conductor is fixed to one fixing element 11a along the extension direction of the test piece W while the coil 13 inserted in the pipe 12 in a freely movable manner is fixed to the other fixing element 11b and a measuring circuit 14 for detecting a change in the inductance of the coil 13 based on the change of the insertion quantity of the coil 13 to the pipe 12 to measure the extension between the gages of the test piece W is provided. The relative positional change between the fixing elements 11a and 11b can be directly measured without interposing a transmission mechanism and measurement in a temperature region of -40-150°C is also enabled.
