PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal television receiver in which useless power consumption in backlights is prevented while a switching part selects an external input terminal side for connecting an external device and which can always notify of a viewer that the switching part selects the external input terminal side. SOLUTION: Unless a video signal is continuously inputted from the external input terminal side 15 for a fixed period of time in the state the viewer uses a remote controller or the like to selects the external input terminal side 15, a control part 12 outputs a control signal to a backlight driving circuit 11 to thereby turn off backlights other than the backlights disposed facing a character or figure displayed by an OSD (on-screen display) processing part 6.
