PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the influence of a flicker in a logarithmic characteristic region in an image pickup device provided with an image pickup sensor having a linear characteristic region and the logarithmic characteristic region and having a non-integration type pixel configuration. SOLUTION: The image pickup device having the image pickup sensor provided with the linear characteristic region and the logarithmic characteristic region and the non-integration type pixel detecting circuit is provided with a flicker detecting means for detecting the flicker of an image pickup environment by the image pickup sensor. When the flicker detecting means detects the flicker, a photoelectric conversion characteristic 801 of the image pickup sensor is caused to change into a photoelectric conversion characteristic 802 in which the linear characteristic region may be preponderant. Since the linear characteristic region is free from the influence of the flicker by the effect of parasitic capacitance, photographing can be performed while eliminating the influence of the flicker even if the flicker occurs.
