<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a method for growing an impermeable capsule of salt crystals by templating crystal growth on a substrate, and to provide a method for growing the crystals. <P>SOLUTION: A composition containing a target substance encapsulated by a continuous layer of a plurality of the salt crystals is provided, wherein the layer is impermeable to the target substance. Further, a method for producing the continuous layer of the plurality of the salt crystals is provided, wherein the salt contains a cation and an anion. The method includes (i) providing the substrate containing a plurality of negatively charged binding sites for the cation and/or a plurality of positively charged binding sites for the anion and (ii) contacting the substrate with a solution of a salt under such a condition that nuclear formation of the salt crystals containing the cation and the anion is brought about on the plurality of the binding sites, wherein the plurality of the charged binding sites exists on the surface of the substrate at a density so enough that the obtained plurality of the salt crystals forms the continuous layer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
