PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intermediate for efficiently producing a voglibose in few steps, and to provide a method for producing the voglibose from the intermediate. SOLUTION: The intermediate is a compound of general formula (5) (wherein, R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each a 1-6C lower alkyl or joined to each other into =O group, wherein when R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each a lower alkyl, they may be the same as or different from each other or may be joined to each other to form a 4-7C cycloalkyl ring).
