PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact optical switch which can reduce the power of control light and is short in length of an optical fiber constituting an optical fiber loop. SOLUTION: This optical switch is equipped with an optical demultiplexer multiplexer 10, a 1st optical fiber 16, a 2nd optical fiber 18, and an optical nonlinear control part 20. The 1st optical fiber has one end connected to a 2nd port 10-2 of the optical demultiplexer multiplexer and is equipped with an optical coupler 12 which inputs the control light. The 2nd optical fiber has one end connected to a 3rd port 10-3 of the optical demultiplexer multiplexer. The optical nonlinear control part is equipped with a polarized wave demultiplexing multiplexing module 14, a 3rd optical fiber 22, a 4th optical fiber 24, and a polarization plane rotation part 26. The polarized wave demultiplexing multiplexing module is equipped with a 1st input/output end 14-1, a 2nd input/output end 14-2, a 3rd input/output end 14-3, and a 4th input/output end 14-4. The 3rd optical fiber 22 has one end coupled with a 3rd input/output end of the polarized wave demultiplexing multiplexing module. The 4th optical fiber 24 has one end coupled with a 2nd input/output end of the polarized demultiplexing multiplexing module.
