PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operation method of a gas engine and the gas engine, capable of suppressing a detrimental effect due to exhaust gas at starting, and shortening the starting time. SOLUTION: Each cylinder 2 of the gas engine 1 is provided with a main combustion chamber 3 formed between a cylinder liner 21 and a piston 22 and a pre-combustion chamber 4 formed adjacent to the main combustion chamber 3. An ignition plug 31 for igniting mixture gas F of fuel gas and air is arranged in the main combustion chamber 3. A liquid fuel injection nozzle 42 for injecting liquid fuel P and a glow plug 41 for heating and self-igniting liqued fuel are arranged in a pre-combustion chamber 4.
