A protective device provided on the exposed side of a cylinder for driving a working machine has been constructed solid, and as a consequence, the device is permanently deformed when it is in contact with an obstacle, sometimes becoming unable to slide in conjunction with telescoping of the hydraulic cylinder. To solve such a problem, a protective device not easily deformed is provided. The protective device (30) for protecting the exposed side of a cylinder of a working machine has a guard member (32) and a slide guide (31) capable of receiving in a telescopic manner the guard member (32). Further, the slide guide (31) is installed on a cylinder tube (9a), and the head of the guard member (32) is installed on the head of the piston rod (9b). The guard member (32) is a flat plate of spring steel, and the width of the guard member (32) is set greater than the diameter of the piston rod. Cutouts (32a) are provided on both sides in the width direction of the base side end of the guard member (32), a slider (33) is fitted in the cutouts (32a), and the head of the guard member (32) is bent in a roll shape to form a pivot support section.
