<p>Functionalised non-woven fabrics (I) with a negative Zeta potential at pH 1-13 and with a surface layer or zone, formed on the fibres by plasma treatment, which contains covalently-bound groups such as anionic groups and/or precursors of anionic groups and/or polyether groups and/or polyol groups. Independent claims are also included for (1) a method (M1) for the production of (I) by (a) making a non-woven fabric by known methods, (b) preparing a zone containing a plasma discharge together with finely-divided organic acid (and/or a salt or precursor thereof) and/or polyether and/or polyol, preferably unsaturated acid(s) or their salts, anhydrides or precursors and (c) passing the fabric through the plasma discharge zone (2) a method (M2) similar to M1, in which the plasma discharge zone contains organic acid precursor(s), optionally in combination with acid(s), salt(s), precursor(s), polyether(s) and/or polyol(s) as above .</p> |
