The method involves measuring slowing down duration of a rotor (18), after stop of electrical supply power of an electric motor (12) of a fan (10), for stop phases of the fan. A progress of the duration of the rotor is stored to detect ageing of the fan. The duration is defined as time lapse separating time at which current rotor speed exceeds high threshold speed and time at which the current rotor speed exceeds low threshold speed. An independent claim is also included for a fan having an electric motor for driving a rotor.
