PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication system capable of correctly and rapidly communicating a series of known reference sequences on both transmitting and receiving sides, and a transmitter and a receiver. SOLUTION: This communication system is provided with a transmitting means for transmitting digital information sequences including known reference sequences on both the transmitting and receiving sides, and a receiving means for calculating the correlation between the reference sequence included in the received digital information sequence and a reference sequence set before reception. The reference sequence is set so as to provide a correlating output characteristic in which a section having a comparatively large correlation exists between a section where a peak value with an autocorrelation may exist and a section having a comparatively small correlation within a range where a significant correlation value may be generated from a correlating means having a predetermined filter length.
