METHOD FOR DIGITAL IMAGE SEGMENTATION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry out segmentation of a digital image so as to display it in a mixed raster content form having a consistent foreground.

SOLUTION: This method for digital image segmentation comprises steps of: extracting uniform color objects from an image; testing for color consistency of at least several objects out of the extracted objects to decide if the extracted objects should be chosen for coding to the foreground layers in a mixed raster content form; clustering objects that are chosen for displaying the foreground layer in color space; and segmenting the image such that each foreground layer represents the objects from the common color cluster.
