<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for satisfactorily repairing gradations apt to be visually buried, with adequately restraining the brightness change of the entire screen. <P>SOLUTION: The image processor comprises an image input unit, a variation extractor, a modulation signal generator, a level compressor, and a gradation corrector. The image input unit takes in an input image. The variation extractor extracts local variation components from the input image, and generates a local variation image including the variation components. The modulation signal generator obtains modulation signals for modulating the input image to the local variation image. The level compressor compresses the level of the modulation signal.
