PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an interrogator for a wireless communication system capable of realizing smooth and highly reliable wireless communication control by preventing a converging time for antenna directivity control from getting longer. SOLUTION: The interrogator 100 includes reception antennas 2A to 2C for receiving a signal transmitted or returned from a wireless tag T. Multiplier sections 52a to 52c apply a weight to a signal received by the reception antennas 2A to 2C so as to change the directivity by the elements of the reception antennas 2A to 2C in a way of optimizing the reception sensitivity to the wireless tag T and output the signal after weighting from an adder section 53. Then an adaptive control section 51 determines the weight so that a signal level of a composite output signal Y after the weighting approaches a prescribed reference level outputted from a reference level control section 54.
