PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus of manufacturing a flat-surface display device in which productivity is improved by canceling the temperature gradient of a substrate in a short time. SOLUTION: In the method of manufacturing the flat-surface display device having substrates arranged oppositely and peripheries joined to one another, the sizes of the two substrates 11, 12 are detected, and the deviation of the detected substrate size from a predetermined size is detected. The quantity of heat corresponding to the detected deviation is supplied to or removed from the substrate. The quantity of the deviation is corrected by the change of the thermal expansion of the substrate according to the quantity of heat, and the substrate is made to a predetermined size.
