PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the deformation of a cylinder liner by the tightening force of head bolts for fastening a cylinder head to a cylinder block while sufficiently cooling the cylinder liner. SOLUTION: A water jacket 16 opened in the cylinder head placement surface 5 thereof is formed between a cylinder block outer wall 15 and the cylinder liner 14 formed integrally with the cylinder block outer wall. An intermediate rib 17 integrally connecting the cylinder liner 14 to the cylinder block outer wall 15 is partially formed on the water jacket 16 at a position apart a specified distance from the cylinder head placement surface 5 of the cylinder block 1 to the anti-cylinder head side. A screw part 30 starting at a position on the anti-cylinder head side more than the end edge of the intermediate rib 17 on the cylinder head side is formed on the inner peripheral surfaces of head bolt holes 25 for fastening the cylinder head formed in the cylinder block outer wall 15.
