PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a treatment method for nitrate nitrogen-containing water which increases a reaction speed for the reductive decomposition of nitrate nitrogen and reduces the production amount of ammonia. SOLUTION: When nitrate nitrogen is subjected to reductive decomposition by bringing nitrate nitrogen-containing water into contact with a catalyst in the presence of a reducing agent, a soluble sulfate such as sodium sulfate and/or a hydrogensulfate such as sodium hydrogensulfate is allowed to coexist in nitrate nitrogen-containing water.
