METHOD FOR PRODUCING OPTICALLY ACTIVE 2-ALKYL-D-CYSTEINE OR ITS SALT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for production by which the efficiency is excellent in order to obtain an optically active 2-alkyl-D-cysteine or its salt that is an industrial important compound expectable of wide utilization as a raw material for producing various kinds of industrial chemicals, agrochemicals and medicines. SOLUTION: A microbial cell of a microorganism or a treated material thereof having an activity of stereoselectively hydrolyzing an amide bond of a 2-alkylcysteinamide which is a mixture of the DL-isomers is made to act on the 2-alkylcysteinamide to provide a mixture of the 2-alkyl-L-cysteine which is a reaction product with the optically active 2-alkyl-D-cysteinamide that is the unreacted substance. The optically active 2-alkyl-D-cysteinamide is then separated from the mixture and the amide bond is hydrolyzed to produce the optically active 2-alkyl-D-cysteine or its salt.
