The device has an annular piston (17) and a seal (19) in contact with the piston. The piston has a radially shaped rear surface in contact with the seal. Multiple concave regions are locally formed in the rear surface. A pip disposed in each concave region does not protrude beyond the rear surface. The rear surface is connected to adjacent cylindrical surfaces of the piston by sharp corners. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a clutch control system comprising a cylinder and a hydraulically operated clutch release bearing device (B) a method to fabricate an annular piston of the clutch release bearing.
