[Class 144 (ii)] [Also in Group V] The cushion-rubber layer 4 between the tread 3 and the textile foundation 5 of a tyre cover is reinforced by one or more layers 1, 2 of rubber harder than the tread rubber, in place of the usual fabric &c. breaker strips. As shown, the insertions may be formed with tapered edges, and of diminishing thickness towards the tread. Suitable compositions for the insertion layers consist of rubber, sulphur, mercaptobenzothiazole, stearic acid, pine tar, zinc oxide, lamp black, with or without precipitated chalk, mineral rubber, and cotton fibres. |
