Isolation and use of white rot fungi

Disclosed is a method of isolating decay fungi which will have a positive effect on non-sterilized wood including the steps of 1) collection of decay fungi; 2) preparation of a cultivation of decay fungi, 3) testing the decay fungi to a. establish production of oxidative enzymes b. establish the ability of the fungi to our grow/inhibit competitor fungi 4) isolation of the desired fungi. Such fungi have an ability to decrease the presence of other, more damaging fungi without significantly damaging the wood, and therefore can be used for enhancing the quality of wood or wood products.
