PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer having a sulfonic acid group, or a derivative of the sulfonic acid group, a method of producing the polymer, and a new compound for producing the polymer. SOLUTION: The polymer includes a unit represented by formula (1): wherein R represents -A1-SO2R1; A1is selected from an alkylene group, a heterocyclic, and an aromatic ring; and -SO2R1is a sulfonic acid group or a group comprising a derivative of a sulfonic acid.
