PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the entire energy storage capacity by reducing the loss at charge and discharge of an electric double layer capacitor, in an energy storage device for an electric double layer capacitor. SOLUTION: Auxiliary capacitorsΔCx being electric double layer capacitors are connected in parallel with individual Cx's via NMOS transistors 25. Each voltage equalizing circuit is equipped with a comparator 27 which outputs a control signal to switch on an NMOS transistor 25 when the voltage of each Cx connected in parallel gets over a specified value. Each NMOS transistor 25 charges eachΔCx by bypassing the current flowing to each Cx into eachΔCx when it is switched on by this control signal. Moreover, it is provided with a PMOS transistor 26 which discharges electricity to load from eachΔCx when the voltage of eachΔCx gets over the voltage of each Cx.
