摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus and method capable of receiving an M-value image which can take 0, a positive value and a negative value and superimposing the M value image on a received N-value image while suppressing the image quality. SOLUTION: A correction summation section 11 adds a correction signal calculated by a correction calculation section 16 on the basis of an error of processed pixels around a target pixel to an M-value pixel signal to generate a correction summating signal. A quantization section 12 quantizes the correction summating signal into an N-value, an adder section 21 sums the quantized signal and the N-value pixel signal, and a clip section 22 clips the sum to an N-value to obtain an output N-value signal. Further, a variation calculation section 13 subtracts the N-value pixel signal from the output N-value signal to obtain a variation signal. An error calculation section 14 quantizes the variation signal to subtract the quantized variation signal from the correction summating signal, an error storage section 15 stores the result as a quantized error signal, and a correction calculation section 16 uses the stored quantized error signal for the processing applied to other adjacent pixels to calculate the correction signal.
