PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that pigment particles to be mother particles have fluctuation in their particle diameters and shapes and uniform particles can not be obtained as electrophoretic particles, in the conventional electrophoretic particles formed by grafting polymer chains onto the surfaces of the pigment particles. SOLUTION: A manufacturing method of the electrophoretic particles includes a step for mixing a polymer fine particle dispersion liquid wherein the polymer fine particles having functional groups are dispersed in a liquid and a coloring agent dispersion liquid wherein a coloring agent is dispersed in a liquid and flocculating the polymer fine particles and the coloring agent to form flocculation particles, a step for heating and uniting the flocculation particles to form composite particles consisting of the polymer and the coloring agent, a step for introducing living radical polymerization initiator groups in the functional groups of the composite particles and a step for forming the polymer chains grafted from the introduced living radical polymerization initiator groups by living radical polymerization.
