PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet feeder equipped with an enhanced reliability in feeding sheets in the sequence one by one with the uppermost one first, by preventing the sheets lying in the second place and thereunder from plunging through a separating feeding part. SOLUTION: From an air blowout device 54, air is sent to sheets P stacked in a sheet feed tray 52 to cause the sheets P to levitate. The height of the levitated sheet(s) P is restricted by levitation restricting members 62 and 63, and the sheet is sent out with rotation of a nudger roller 56. A sheet guide 72 is installed in extension on the sheet feed tray 52, in such an arrangement that the tip of the guide is located above the levitation restricting position by the restricting members 62 and 63. The sheet P sent off from the tray 52 is guided by the sheet guide 72 and fed to the separating feeding part 61 where a feed roller 58 and a retard roller 60 are put in pressure contact. At that time, the sheets P lying in the second place and thereunder are hindered from advancing by the sheet guide 72, and the likelihood of their plunging into the separating feeding part 61 is reduced, and the sheets P are transported separatedly one by one.
