The pre-cleaner for a filter arrangement in the air intake of an internal combustion engine is arranged in a filter housing (10) and partly encloses an air filter element. It comprises a separate unit for releasable fitment in the filter housing and has devices for releasable coupling with the air filter element. Also, a method is provided for charging the air filter element.
