PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin composition capable of being used in coating a metal can for a food and a beverage and capable of being formed into a coating excellent in processability, adhesion, retort resistance, and flavoring properties. SOLUTION: A polyester resin for coating the can is composed of a polycarboxylic acid component comprising 50-100 mol% of terephthalic acid and 0-50 mol% of a polycarboxylic acid other than the terephthalic acid and a polyalcohol component comprising 40-90 mol% of 2-methyl-1,3-propanediol and 10-60 mol% of 1,2-propanediol and has an intrinsic viscosity of≥0.45 and a glass transition temperature of≥50°C.
