PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focusing apparatus which eliminates the need for a power transmission mechanism and performs focusing only by the operation of an actuator. SOLUTION: The positions in the optical axis directions of lenses (5 and 6) are fixed and an image sensor (4) is moved forward and backward with respect to the lenses (5 and 6). The image sensor (4) is installed on the upper side of an electrostrictive actuator (2) consisting of a silicone film (2a) and electrode layers (2b1 and 2b2) formed by applying carbon to both surfaces of the silicone film (2a). By applying a voltage to the electrode layers (2b1 and 2b2), the electrostrictive actuator (2) elongates and contracts and accompanying the same, the image sensor (4) moves forward and backward in the optical axis direction.
