CS-RZ OUTPUT WAVELENGTH CONVERTER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a CS-RZ output wavelength converter which outputs CS-RZ codes without increasing the number of constituent components.

SOLUTION: Only one difference phase modulation type CS-RZ wavelength converter composed of a phase modulator (CS-RZ pulse beam generator) integrated with an intensity modulator (data applier) is enough to perform the wavelength conversion of the CS-RZ output. An input may be one of RZ, NRZ and CS-RZ. A phase changer uses a nonlinear medium (e.g., EA) having a refractive index changeable by both light and electricity. This constitution can provide a wavelength converter having a simple structure which provides a CS-RZ code of a wavelength λ2on an output for an NRZ, RZ or CS-RZ code input data beam of a wavelength λ1.
