<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical communication device and an optical communication system which can reduce the power consumption and also extend the lifetime of a light emitting element without reducing the throughput of an entire system. <P>SOLUTION: In the optical communication system where an optical communication I/F part 16A corresponding to a master and optical communication I/F parts 16B to 16D corresponding to slaves are connected through optical fibers and optical sheet busses 42A and 42B, photodetectors 80, reception circuits 82, and control circuits 92 of the master and slaves are always connected to power sources 84, and light emitters 86 and transmission circuits 88 are connected to remote control power sources 90 capable of being remotely controlled. In each slave, the control circuit 92 controls turning-on/off of the remote control power source on the basis of an indication of the master.
