A cricket pitch (1) consists of a central portion (7) and two opposing end portions (6) of substantially equal lengths. Each end portion (6) has a bowling crease (2) and a popping crease (3) and extends between the respective bowling crease (2) and the central portion (7). Demarcation means (8) are provided at the junction of each end portion (6) and the central portion (7). The central portion (7) represents a no ball zone where any delivery impacting the no ball zone is deemed to be a no ball. The central portion 7 is preferably defined by a bunker 9, filled with sand or other loose granular material. The bunker 9 may have a length of 10 metres and a depth of 0.3 metres. The edge of the bunker 9a may be aligned or offset from the demarcation lines 8.
|
