<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a developer for a thermal recording material which exhibits outstanding color development sensitivity and resistance to water, oil and light to the same degree as or higher than the developer using a bisphenol A as a raw material, and a method for manufacturing the developer as well as a thermal recording material containing the developer and a thermal recording medium using the thermal recording material. <P>SOLUTION: The developer for the thermal recording material is composed of a chemical compound shown by general formula [1], and the thermal recording material contains the developer and a leuco dye.
